Campus Leaders Summit 2013

We’ve just come back from our annual Campus Ministry leaders summit in JHB with all our full-time & part-time campus ministers from across Southern Africa, giving feedback for the year and planning for next year.

In the picture right at the top is all our staff members who are serving in campus ministry. All the full-time guys are supported through partnerships like yours with us.

Together we are reaching about 6000 students currently in Southern Africa.

Our hearts cried out to God as we know there over 1 million tertiary students in RSA and statistically most young people who lose their faith, do so while on the campus.

We are aware that along with other ministries that focus on youth, we have our work cut out and our faith is high that with God nothing is impossible.

Here’s some photos from the summit:

We had a formal dinner on the last night:

Ladies Outreach to Old Age Home

September was our community mission month and the students from one of Chinelle’s connect groups decided to go to the old age home in Woodstock to spend the day with the elderly there.

From Chinelle:

Most of the old people at this home don't ever get visitors or family members visiting them and some feel abandoned. It's heart warming to see their faces light up as the youngsters walk in for a cuppa tea & a chat.

This is our second time going there and they absolutely love the company of young people.

Our hope is that God will touch their hearts through these visits and that we may get opportunities to share the gospel to those who don't yet have a relationship with God.

For the students, they were so blessed to bring a smile to the elderly and to pray with them.

5 to 9 leaders at Leo Marquad

This first photo is from end of 2012 when I handed over the connect group leadership to 5 new leaders that I’ve been walking with personally:

And then in these photos the current leaders are handing over the connect group leadership to 5 new guys that they have been walking with relationally.

In 2013 we were reaching just over 20 students in the residence. This year we’re trusting God to reaching at least twice that number through the guys in the connect groups reaching out relationally in the res.

Pioneering Campus Ministry in DRC

Roshni, who leads Chinelle & myself and our Campus Ministry in Cape Town, has just come back from a two week trip to the DRC where we’re partnering with a church there to pioneer a campus ministry!

Didier and Christine, originally from DRC are the campus pastors, they were with us in Cape Town in May to see how we do campus ministry and they went back to DRC to pioneer campus ministry where they have about 300 students in the church.

They shared the vision of campus ministry and 7 students responded. However, since June, they have grown to about 35 students. They equipped these students through a 5 day seminar in discipleship, small groups leading, evangelism and leadership.
Roshni

Roshni:
I had five days with them, imparted everything I could. We also prayed for students to be filled in the Spirit, 30 students spoke in tongues..many were delivered and healed...prophesied over all of them, we had a Holy Spirit party!

Roshni 4

One of my highlights was walking on the University of Lumumbashi..it was the very first time as the church we had access to the campus. I had to meet one of the directors to get permission, had to share what campus ministry is about. The SRC president and other student leaders join us as well, gave us a tour of the campus.

Roshni 2

We met some Deans of faculties, prayed with them..visited residences, clinics. They are trusting for a 2000 seater auditorium for campus services on Sundays. The SRC president is very excited for us to be on campus and when I spoke to him about the auditorium, his answer was 'No problem'.

Roshni 3

Jeremiah 1:10 says 'See today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant'. Before I left for DRC, I was meditating on Jeremiah 1:10. You don't need to be prophetic or discerning to see how the enemy had come to steal, kill and destroy in the nations..its not enough to see the destruction and discuss about it..we are sent to tear down what the enemy has built to bring God's Kingdom.

Let's continue to pray for the leaders and for the seeds to grow and bear much fruit!

Pastoral Counselling @ ENSCM

Class Photo

Fun times at the School of Campus Ministry this past Friday learning about pastoral counselling and deliverance with Carol Gosman from His people Joburg

Back to school: Doing the School of Campus Ministry

From 27 May to 30 June Chinelle and I are attending the school of campus ministry intensive happening in Cape Town.

So privileged to get this focused download as input to help us minister better on campus. School of Campus Ministry

This time around some of the subjects are:
  • Nation Building
  • Strategic Leadership
  • Missions
  • Pastoral Ministry

Today I got reminded that discipleship is not just teaching people to know their bible and how to pray but it’s teaching people to transform their world.

Evangelising at UCT Med School

Outraech

Continuing our daily o-week outreaches, today we went to the UCT medical campus. It was a very tough experience but we believe we sowed some seed and trust God for fertile ground in future.

Orientation Week Campus Outreach

This week we’re doing outreaches on the university campuses evangelising one on one. IMG_0256

We continue to use a tool we call the God Test which makes evangelism less confrontational by merely asking people 9 specific questions that help start a conversation.

I was fortunate to lead one guy to the Lord today.

What’s exciting is seeing the students so eager to share the gospel with first years.

We’re trusting God to reach more students in the next few weeks. There’s 4000 new students at UCT alone…the harvest is plenty!
