Gauteng Road-trip Part 1 of 3

Andrew & I are doing a road-trip to our family of churches in Potch, PTA, Joburg and Durban. The purpose is to bring to awareness & training in how to have a simple and effective communication strategy using the latest Social Network technoilogies – Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, etc

Frost in Potch

It was so freezing I didn’t need an alarm to wake me up.

First Men’s Meeting at His People Baxter!

This past Sunday (9 May 2010) we as men met and had older men (represented by uncle Neville) speaking into us young men’s lives.

If we as a church are a family then it should mean that whatever one may need, they should be able to get help in the family. Well, at least we shouldn’t sit back and watch as  our bro’s struggle.

It makes a huge difference when someone like uncle Neville, a father in the house, encourages us guys to step it up and be the men God’s called us to be and believing in us that we are chosen by God to bear His image.

“Be men of integrity, excellence & men of faith!”

Uncle Neville – one of the leaders in our church.

After he spoke we had some one on one time where guys connected with a leader and ministered to one another. Nothing flashy or fancy, just some real talks. Our question is “men, what is the standard & what is our role in our families, churches, businesses & society?”

“As men we need to be brothers, fathers & sons. We need to be real brothers to our peers alongside us, we need to make an impact on the young guys looking up at us and we need men to look up to and to ensure we are receiving from those men.” (William Msemburi – addressing the men at the meeting)

Identity 2 Destiny Camp

Ps George from our church in P.E. came over to take 3 of the 5 sessions.
Check this: he says we all have luggage & baggage. We’re born with luggage, it’s God given & through life we pick up unnecessary baggage.
Our job is to find the baggage & let go of it, discover our luggage (what we’re made of) & from that reference point do life.

The men’s response particularly interested me when most of the guys there met on Saturday afternoon basically realising that alone it’s not easy to develop a strong godly character & so we need  each other to encourage & speak truth to one another.
One of the initiatives the guys have made is playing soccer together on Saturday mornings then having informal chats afterwards about issues affecting men. This is what I call manly love!

Baxter Monthly Prayer Meeting

Peter Young's visit to the monthly prayer meeting held @ UCT.

He shared about the gift of prophecy and went on to prophecy over numerous people in
the room including prophesying over my life too.  It was tyt seeing how God accurately
spoke to people through Peter's words and I believe many people left there inspired  to
see God use them in prophecy.

With me he encouraged me by speaking hope and God's promise into 5 specific
areas in my life that he could never have known about from anyone seeing as I'd
never actually met him one to one and he doesn't know any of my friends and
those areas are too specific to 'hit by luck'.

The key point was: God encourages us in 1 Corinthians 14v1 to "Follow
the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy."

"Especially" prophecy it says to encourage, exhort, uplift & bring hope (among other things).
The power of God is available to us God's children He is willing - let's keep stepping out in faith!

About Peter Young :
- He is the son of Rob Young (one of our pastors who went to plant a church overseas).
- He spends most of his time traveling the world to places where people haven't heard the gospel teaching and mainly showing God's power and His gifts of the Spirit.

What are you thoughts on prophecy and gifts of the Spirit?
